&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Desfontaines also opened a tearoom at the pastry shop. In those days ladies were not admitted to cafés, which were the exclusive domain of men. This was a big success with ladies, who enjoyed meeting in the freedom of the tearoom rather than their homes.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span&gt;Melt the butter in a saucepan over a medium heat.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span&gt;Stir in the brown sugar and milk, and bring to the boil for 2-3min without stirring.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span&gt;Remove from the heat, and stir in the peanut butter and vanilla seeds. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span&gt;Place the icing sugar in a large bowl, and pour the hot butter and sugar mixture on top.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span&gt;Using a wooden spoon, beat the mixture until smooth.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span&gt;Pour into a 20cm/8in square baking tray, and set aside to cool slightly, then place in the fridge to chill completely&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span&gt;Cut the fudge into squares with a sharp knife, turn out of the tin and store in an airtight container.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Confined to his home after a failed experiment cost him his sight, Dalén was inspired to create a better, more efficient cooker for his wife, Elma, who constantly had to tend to their old-fashioned range.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Dalén created a cast-iron cooker capable of every kind of cooking simultaneously, through its two large hotplates and two ovens. The now famous AGA was born and by &lt;strong&gt;1929&lt;/strong&gt; manufacturing was under way at the AGA Heat Ltd factory in Smethwick.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;img src="http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lt9ngjO7Ij1qgaei0.jpg"/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;T&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;he popularity of AGA heat storage cookers grew steadily through the 1930s. In &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1931&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt; a total of 322 AGA cookers were bought, with sales soaring to 1,705 just 12 months later. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
